Common Uses: An effective gentle stimulant laxative for the relief of constipation. This product generally produces bowel movements in six to eight hours. Cascara is not habit forming and tones and regulates the colon.
Suggested Dosage: One or two capsules at bedtime with full 8-ounce glass of water. Leanne has a "Rule of thumb" with using this herb. This is - If you wake up in the morning and you do not have a bowel motion or do not eliminate a good amount and if all day still do not go again, that night take 1 or 2 capsules. When you wake up in the morning and eat something, you should have a bowel motion. Do not be alarmed if this herb does not produce the desired effect the first few times you use it - persevere.
Health Information: A lot of people are reluctant to use a laxative and rightly so, as these can make an already sluggish bowel, even more sluggish. The laxative we recommend at the clinic is the herb Cascara Sagrada. Cascara is different to any other laxative. Most laxatives work by introducing an irritant into the body. We have a bowel motion from this because all the body wants to do is get rid of the irritant as fast as it can, which produces the evacuation. Cascara regulates the colon. It promotes the normal squeezing and contraction of the bowel and tones the intestines as well as the rest of the body. It increases the secretions of the liver, stomach, pancreas and lower bowel - but is not an irritant to the bowel. It is much gentler on the system than Senna or Aloe, but is very effective, providing relief overnight (6-8 hours). It is important that Cascara be properly aged to eliminate the griping and intestinal cramping common with 'Green' bark.
Ingredients: Each capsule contains 425mg of Aged Cascara Sagrada bark. This is peeled from trees in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and is aged for at least one year (three years is considered optimum) prior to processing.
Safety Information: Keep out of reach of children. Contraindications: Not recommended for use during pregnancy. Avoid prolonged use of this or any stimulant laxative. If bowels do not move for 3-4 days after using this herb, seek professional advice.
