Health Information: The story: Antipodes evolved with the birth of my (Elizabeth Barbalich's) three gorgeous children, now aged five, seven and eight. Finding my body depleted of vitamins and minerals, I sought help from a naturopath and an acupuncturist to boost my energy levels as a mother. And it worked wonders I was amazed to find that I felt happier and healthier at the age of 38 than I did at 20! I wanted to continue with the benefits of a gentler and more holistic lifestyle, so I began searching for other options to what I found was the harshness of the chemical-based skincare I was using. I'd studied Physical Education and Science at university, so I became very interested in exactly what ingredients were being used and why. It worried me to be putting the chemicals contained in these products onto my skin and therefore straight into my body. Yet even when I tried some of the best natural ranges on the market, I still couldn't find moisturisers that were sufficient for my skin's needs. I was looking for skincare that would be very hydrating, have effective natural plant ingredients with beautiful fragrances as well as look gorgeous in my bathroom and bedroom! The idea of creating my own skincare range that would do all this was sparked when I began training as a naturopath. I loved the research into plants and their extraordinary health benefits. And I was simply overawed by the incredible properties of the under-used oil of the avocado pear, and the beauty and benefits of many other ingredients in the New Zealand environment. I wanted to create exotic fragrances, that were reminiscent of the seasons in Aotearoa. I travelled twice to India with my family to study the use of essential oils and Ayurvedic medicine and their use in daily life. Not only were the oils sensual and healing for the skin, they also had powerful effects on the emotions. Back in New Zealand I engaged a French perfumer to capture and perfect the gorgeous fragrances I had discovered.
