Lactoferrin

Lactoferrin

Lactoferrin, an iron binding protein, derived from high quality NZ colostrum protein extract. Research shows it is helpful in preventing proliferation & spread of bacteria, viral, fungal & protozoal infections. H.pylori. 226mg per capsule. 60 capsules.

Brand: Radiance

Pack Size: 60 Capsules

Common Uses: Lactoferrin is thought to play several important biological roles related to its iron binding ability and other immune support and antioxidant activities. Lactoferrin binds iron over a hundred times more strongly than transferrin, the major iron transport protein in the body. This action provides potent, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research has shown oral supplementation with lactoferrin to be helpful in preventing the proliferation and spread of bacteria, viral, fungal and protozoal infections, as these organisms depend on an adequate supply of free iron for reproduction and survival. Positive results have been seen with staphylococcus aureus, E.coli, klebsiella pneumoniae, helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori), cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), candida albicans and other infectious organisms. Research is underway at Auckland's Osteoporosis Research group, at the University of Auckland's Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. They have found that lactoferrin not only inhibits bone breakdown, but it also boosts bone growth four times faster than normal when injected directly into bone. Interestingly, when white blood cells in the body respond to infection, they spurt out lactoferrin naturally. This is the body's 1st line of defence. As well as this, lactoferrin is highly indicated for infections of any description, acute and chronic infections such as arthritis, crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, low bone density and bone repair, gut conditions, haemochromotosis and for formula fed babies.

Suggested Dosage: 2 capsules daily on an empty stomach. For formula fed infants, 1/4 of a capsule, opened and sprinkled into the formula, over the period of the day.

Health Information: Health Information: Radiance Lactoferrin, an iron binding protein is derived from 250mg of the finest quality New Zealand colostrum protein extract. The careful extraction process provides a lactose free, low iron product with 99% protein containing 90-92% lactoferrin. Research has shown that supplementation with lactoferrin may benefit gut, immune and bone health, help reduce infection and provide antioxidant activity in people of all ages. Lactoferrin is a multifunctional and multi-tasking glycoprotein that belongs to the iron transporter or transferring family. The highest known concentrations of lactoferrin are found in human colostrum, with significant levels also found naturally in bovine colostrum, the secretions of human tear ducts, salivary and prostate glands and certain immune system white blood cells. Lactoferrin is thought to play several important biological roles related to its iron-binding ability and other immune support and antioxidant activities. Lactoferrin binds iron over a hundred times more strongly than transferrin, the major iron transport protein in the body. This action provides potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research has shown oral supplementation with lactoferrin to be helpful in preventing the proliferation and spread of bacterial, viral, fungal and protozoal infections, as these organisms depend on an adequate supply of free iron for reproduction and survival. Positive results have been seen with staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, klebsiella pneumoniae, helicobacter pylori, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), cytomegalovirus, candida albicans and other infectious organisms. By binding free iron, lactoferrin also reduces the amount of oxidative free radicals released during the inflammatory process. This action may be particularly useful for joint conditions including rheumatoid arthritis and other chronic inflammatory conditions. Ongoing research supports Naturopathic Doctor Michael Murray's statement that "lactoferrin is definitely indicated in people with elevated iron levels such as haemochromotosis". Lactoferrin also appears to be particularly important for the health and function of the intestinal tract. It has been found to greatly reduce intestinal inflammation and pathogenic bacteria levels, whilst enhancing proliferation of good gut flora. Some research also suggests that lactoferrin is able to stimulate intestinal cell growth which may lead to better tissue repair and improved digestive functions in general. Bone health is another area to benefit from lactoferrin supplementation, as it stimulates bone forming osteoclasts and chondrocytes, whilst decreasing development of bone degrading osteoclasts. Research by the University of Auckland's Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences have found that lactoferrin not only inhibits bone breakdown, but also boosts bone growth four times faster than normal when injected directly into bone. Associate professor Jill Cornish in the University's faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, who heads the project, says incorporating lactoferrin into a pill or an enriched beverage may prevent the onset of osteoporosis in those at risk, but this is some time away as more research is needed. Local injection on lactoferrin has resulted in such "phenomenal bone growth", she says, that is could be applied directly to the fracture site to promote faster healing that growth factor treatments currently available. Dr Cornish, who delivered a paper on her findings at the Global Dairy Summit Conference of Melbourne, says a lot of research has been done on the development of treatments to inhibit bone resorption, but there is little known about how to build bone. "This is what differentiates lactoferrin and makes it so exciting - it's a double whammy of you like - inhibiting the formation of cells that resorb bone and stimulate the cells that form bone."
