Efalex Ability

Efalex is a unique formulation providing the important fatty acids omega 3 & 6. Research shows these are vital for helping maintain proper eye/brain function, as well as helping with poor night vision. May help calmness, attention span & learning ability.
Brand: Efamol
Pack Size: 220 Capsules
Common Uses: Studies show supplementation with good fats resulted in significant improvements in dyslexia. They showed improvement in dark adaptation, which is a marker of dyslexia. Trials show children with low blood levels of the good fats are further behind in their reading. They also showed that supplementation with good fats resulted in significant improvements in manual dexterity, ball skills and balance of dyspraxic children. As well as this trials show the higher the levels of good fats the better the overall academic ability and the less likelihood of behaviour problems and anxiety. Trials show ADHD boys exhibit signs of good fat deficiencies; extreme thirst, dry skin and frequent urination.
Suggested Dosage: Adults and children over 5 years - 4 capsules twice a day daily, with a meal. After 12 weeks the dosage may be halved. For children under 5 years: Take 2-3 capsules twice a day. After 12 weeks this dosage may be halved and split into 2 even doses a day.
Health Information: Efalex ability is a unique patented combination containing high levels of DHA Fish oil, Efamol Evening primrose oil, Vitamin E and Thyme oil. These provide the body with the important essential fatty acids (EFA's): arachidonic acid - AA, docosahexaenoic acid - DHA and gamma linolenic acid - GLA. It has been shown that these essential fatty acids are critical for eye and brain development and function. Studies conducted by research scientists Dr Jackie Stordy from the University of Surrey and Dr Maria Makrides from Flinders University, have demonstrated the importance of the combination of fatty acids in Efalex in helping to maintain eye and brain function. Eye and brain function are important factors in our ability to learn to read, write and spell. Essential fatty acids are vital components of every cell in the body and are extremely important for proper vision, hearing and brain function. A large proportion of the human brain is composed of the fatty acids DHA - required for normal nerve cell and eye membranes and AA - required for normal transmission of messages along nerves and for the laying down of memory. A randomised double-blind, placebo-controlled study of supplementation with highly unsaturated fatty acids on ADHA related symptoms in children with specific learning difficulties was published in Progress in Neuro-psychopharmacology & Biological psychiatry. Behavioural and learning problems in children are a cause of increasing concern. Currently attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is estimated to affect well over 4% of the school aged population in the United States (New Zealand figures are unknown) although both diagnostic and treatment issues are a source of controversy. Certain highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA's) are already known to play an important role in many aspects of physical health, notably in cardiovascular and immune function. The relative lack of these fatty acids in modern Western diets has been highlighted as a potential major health issue and recently, attention has been focusing on their potential role in a wide range of neuro-developmental and psychiatric conditions including ADHA. Blood biochemical evidence has suggested that a deficiency of certain HUFA's may contribute to some of the behavioural and learning problems central to ADHA. A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial was therefore conducted to investigate the effects of HUFA supplementation on behavioural and learning problems in children with specific learning difficulties (mainly dyslexia) in which ADHD-related symptoms were the major issue. The results confirmed that HUFA supplements produced significant symptom reductions in several ADHD areas including: psychosomatic, anxious/shy, cognitive problems, inattention, hyperactive-impulses as well as trend level improvement in emotional lability and restless-impulsive. Improvements were significantly greater for active treatment over placebo for cognitive problems, anxious/shy and a broader range of behavioural problems. Under double-blind conditions over a 12 week period, HUFA supplementation was found to be significantly better than placebo in reducing a wider range of ADHD-related symptoms in children with specific learning difficulties. No adverse side effects were associated with this treatment. This liquid is ideal for those who cannot swallow capsules.
