Topically: The best way to apply honey to wounds is to spread it on a dressing pad and then place it on the wound. The quantity to use is about a teaspoon for a 5cm x 5cm dressing, or proportionally for larger dressings. A pea sized drop of honey on the pad of a Band-Aid is suitable for cuts, boils etc. The dressing needs to be changed frequently if the honey becomes diluted by wound fluid or by contact with water, but if it remains dry, it need be changed only every 2-3 days. With relation to eczema, An ointment, made by blending up to 1/3 honey with a grease like butter, is being trialed for treating children's eczema. The results look promising.
