Candidiasis is a yeast infection caused by an overgrowth of Candida Albicans. Under normal healthy conditions Candida is found in the intestinal tract, vagina, mucous membranes of the mouth and on the skin. In small numbers they are harmless, however, for various reasons including poor diet (refined sugars, processed foods, alcohol, lack of fibre etc), inadequate hygiene, antibiotic use, hormonal changes, compromised immunity, stress etc, these micro-organisms proliferate and cause infections of the mucous membranes and the skin.
